Old habits die hard.
So it should come as no big surprise that Texas breeder Ken Biehle–who’s swept the oldest division of the NGA Track Stakes in two of the last three meets–did it once again earlier today (Friday, Apr. 26) at the NGA Spring Meet in Abilene.
Biehle’s three main-stake winners in the August/September stakes this meet were KB’s Look No Mo (Team Record*-Hot Kisses), KB’s Try This On (Team Record*-KB’s Autumn Dove) and KB’s Go Mama (Kiowa Sweet Trey-KB’s Sun Racer).
The biggest star in that trio was KB’s Try This On, who scorched the NGA course in a 29.61–by far the fastest time of the Spring Meet and just 6 hundredths of a second off the track record of 30.55, set in 2010 by CTW Data Base. KB’s Try This On also had the fastest time on the slow track in the qualifying round on Tuesday–a 30.30 clocking.
The October One Stake on Friday was captured by Wayne Strong’s Waynes Hero (Hi Noon Hero-Paiden Place) with a 30.13 time. The October Two Stake was won by Vince Berland’s Flying Sage (BD’s Grayson-Flying Seaside).
Friday’s finals brought to a close the racing program of the Spring Meet. Next on the agenda is the Brood Matron Auction, starting at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Pup Sale for the younger pups. The December, January and February pups will be walking through the ring at Sterl Hall in Abilene this evening. The older pups (August/September, October and November) will be auctioned Saturday morning, starting at 8:30 a.m.
