Pari-Mutuel Wagering on Historical Races

Dear TGA Member,

On June 10, the Texas Racing Commission considered draft rules for the implementation of pari-mutuel wagering on historical races at licensed Texas racetracks, and voted to publish the rules in the Texas Register for receipt of public comments. This type of wagering has been very successful in Arkansas and Kentucky, and can have the same positive results in Texas. James Doyle Shepherd

 James Doyle Shepherd age 76 was called to Heaven on Sunday, April 20, 2014. Doyle was born on July 16, 1937.

James Doyle ShepherdHe was born to and preceded in death by his mother Zelma Cook-Shepherd, and father Floyd Shepherd in Liberty Hill, Texas. He was also preceded in death by his twin brother Darwin Shepherd at a very young age.

Doyle is survived by his wife Faye Shepherd; children Tracy Shepherd, Wayne Lindholm and wife Laurie, Patricia Morgan and husband Dennis; grandchildren Tori, Robert, Keith, Haven, Christie, and Rhonda; great-grandchildren Jayla, Daymon James, Kyliegh, Cody, Ashley, Kirby, and Matt.

Doyle and Faye were married in 1959. Doyle started his life at a young age as a hard working truck driver. He retired from the Teamsters after 30 years of service. Doyle’s true love were his greyhounds. He achieved his dream in 2010 at the National Greyhound Association National Meet with a top winning litter. Also, in 2012 with another litter of pups that won extremely big, and this year in 2014 Doyle achieved his ultimate dream of having one of his dogs receive top honors of All-American (UTOO pure Silk). Doyle’s Greyhound Farm was his ultimate love and passion (UTOO kennels). He was a true gentle giant. Doyle was a jokester with the most forgiving heart. His presence and his smile lit up the room no matter where or who he was with. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, and most of all his greyhounds.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Bagdad Cemetery, Leander, Texas.

2014 Membership Meeting Agenda

Dear Members,

For those who are attending the Membership Meeting on Saturday; March 15th, please be aware of the major construction that is going on in the Lorena, Bruceville area.  The North and South access roads are now one way only.

If you are coming from the North, take the Lorena Exit 322, and stay on the access road, until you see the TGA on the right. 

If you are coming from the South, you will also take Lorena Exit 322 when you exit off the interstate, take a left at the 1st stop, go over the bridge and another left at the 2nd stop.  Stay on the access road for a couple of miles and you will see the TGA on the right.
